Ellen's Oscar Selfie Is Now A Piece Of Art At Twitter HQ

Oscar night is always a splashy, star-sudded event, but this year Twitter got in on the action too: host Ellen Degeneres corralled her Oscar-nominated pals together for a selfie mid-show, which she then tweeted to millions of viewers. And not only does that selfie have the honor of being the most-retweeted tweet ever, it now has a place of distinction in Twitter’s own headquarters as a piece of art.

Twitter employee Lauren Mitcheom (@LaurenMitcheom) tweeted a picture of the picture of the tweeted picture (yes, you read that right) last week, showing us all just how meta Twitter can be:

The original selfie is estimated to be valued at between $800 million and $1 billion based on the amount of views it received. 37 million people saw the selfie, while 43 million tuned in to the Oscars themselves.

The painting might not be worth quite so much, but it’s a good reminder to Twitter staff about the possibilities of the network, and how its short-but-sweet design can truly connect million of people around the world.
