What Can the Ozlo Team Bring to AI Efforts at Facebook Messenger?

'The majority' of Ozlo's 30 person team will join the Facebook Messenger team

Facebook gave its artificial intelligence efforts for Messenger a boost with its acquisition of conversational AI startup Ozlo.

A Facebook spokesperson told Kurt Wagner of Recode that “the majority” of Ozlo’s 30-person team would join Facebook’s Messenger team out of either the social network’s headquarters in Menlo Park, Calif., or its offices in Seattle.

That majority will not include Ozlo founder and former Facebook head of platform for Android Charles Jolley, according to John Mannes of TechCrunch.

A Facebook spokesperson issued the following statement on the company’s acquisition of Ozlo:

1.2 billion people around the world use Messenger to connect with the people and businesses they care about. We’re excited to welcome the Ozlo team as we build compelling experiences within Messenger that are powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.

And Ozlo said on its website:

Now, we’re ready to take the next step in our journey with Messenger. By joining a team that shares our values and our vision, we will be able to continue to work on building experiences powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning. There’s a lot more for us to explore ahead and we’re excited to bring our technology to the Messenger community.
