Parking Apps are Shoppers’ New Secret Holiday Weapon

One very annoying aspect of holiday shopping travel is the traffic – and it doesn’t get better at the destination. In an effort to win that battle for decent parking, shoppers have turned to apps like ParkMe, Parkopedia, ParkWhiz, or A Parking Spot – all designed to help drivers navigate to the best available spot, or even deterring shopping when parking is next to impossible.

In an interview with The New York Times, 23 year old shopper and student Jessi Molohon said,” I have it down to a routine. There are some spots I know of that are just easy to get in and out of that will help me save time and avoid the holiday traffic just a little.”

Using parking apps can also save on parking fees. Moholon said that, ” Parking can be anywhere from $6 to $12 on the same street, so I want to make sure I’m not overspending on parking when I’m going to overspend on shopping.”

Apps like ParkMe allows users to see real-time statistics for parking lots, so if they are too full, customers will opt to stay home. Phoebe Scott of Orange County said she will only go shopping if lots are below 90% full. Given the frustration of finding parking and driving in circles, it’s no wonder apps like ParkMe have seen a 97% growth in users just this past year.
