PBS to Launch Multiplatform Need to Know Initiative

PBS knows that its viewers need to know, so the network is launching multiplatform initiative Need to Know on-air and online Fridays beginning May 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET.

Need to Know will be created and produced by WNET.org New York and hosted by NPR and MSNBC veteran and Peabody Award winner Alison Stewart and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and editor of Newsweek Jon Meacham. The executive producer is former CNN and ABC News veteran Shelley Lewis.

The package will include interviews, blogs, and photo features, and Need to Know will focus on current events, media, technology, entertainment, the arts, health, science, politics, economy, energy, security, and investigative reporting. The Web portion will add book excerpts, question-and-answer interviews, podcasts, and guest blogs.

PBS said it will launch an online supervertical site in January that will feature content from Need to Know, PBS NewsHour, and Nightly Business Report.
