Pinterest App Debuts on Nook

Tablet maker amps up app offerings to compete with Apple, Google Play

Pinterest is now available from Barnes & Noble's curated app store, and the app will come preinstalled on the Nook tablet like Twitter and Facebook are, according to MediaBistro.

The new app debuted in the Nook store yesterday alongside an overhauled Facebook app.

“Our goal is to bring Nook users the very best in social media," Claudia Romanini, vp of Nook Apps at Nook Media, said in a statement. "These apps will bring to life the rich sharing experiences that Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter offer.”

Nook has recently been expanding its app store in an effort to catch up to the larger competitors Apple and Google Play. Last week, Barnes & Noble launched a new self-publishing service called Nook Press, and last month the retailer said that it would include in-app purchasing features. This is a draw for developers who want to monetize their apps as well as customers who want to make sure they like an app before they buy it, MediaBistro reported

In December, Nook reported a 12.6 percent decline in revenue. Though it is amping up its content, Nook still has a long way to go with its video store and e-reader offerings to rival Amazon. In March, Barnes & Noble offered a free Nook Simple Touch e-reader with the sale of every Nook HD+ tablet.
