Pinterest Debuts AR Try On Feature Powered by Lens for Lipstick Shopping

More categories will be added

Try On rolled out in the U.S. Tuesday on iOS and Android Pinterest

Pinterest is bringing augmented reality to lipstick shopping with Tuesday’s debut of Try On, powered by its Lens visual search tool.

Try On rolled out in the U.S. Tuesday on iOS and Android, and Pinterest said lipstick will be joined by more categories, adding that brands can learn more about integration here.

Pinners can open the application’s camera in search and click on Try On to find different shades of lipstick from brands including bareMinerals, Estée Lauder, Neutrogena, Sephora and L’Oreal brands NYX Professional Makeup, Urban Decay and YSL Beauté.

Browsing More Like This will bring up select Pins with related looks, and Try On can also be used when Pinners see someone wearing a shade they like in a Pin.

Pinners can also snap pictures of shades they sample via Try On and save them as Pins to refer back to and shop at a later time.

Pinterest said Try On was integrated with the skin tone range feature it began beta-testing in April 2018 and added to its iOS app last January and to its Android app shortly thereafter.

The company said in a blog post, “With Try On, you won’t find skin-smoothing or image-altering effects that make you look less like you (as you might see on some other AR technologies). We believe in celebrating you, and so our AR won’t be augmenting your reality, but rather helping you to make happy and real purchases for your life.
