Pinterest will set up shop in its first Canadian office next month, in downtown Toronto, where newly hired country manager Erin Elofson will run the show.
Elofson most recently led sales teams at Facebook Canada. Prior to that, she spent 11 years with Microsoft Canada, acting as the global lead for the company’s partnership with BMO Financial Group.
Pinterest said more than 12 million Canadians use its platform every month, and 4.5 million ideas are saved daily in the country.
The company added in a blog post that national media ad spending in Canada is projected to reach $11.52 billion this year.
Active Pinterest advertisers in Canada include Canadian Tire, Nestlé Canada and Nature’s Path, and the company said its total number of active advertisers in the country is up 50 percent since the beginning of the year.
Pinterest global head of partnerships Jon Kaplan said in the blog post, “We have a strong, passionate user base in Canada, and there is a great opportunity for businesses to connect with these people that are actively considering what to do or buy next. With the addition of a proven industry expert in Erin who will lead our growing new office, we are committed to the Canadian market and the many businesses we look forward to working with.”
