Pinterest Sharpened the Focus of Its Lens Visual Discovery Feature

A new interface and updated camera features highlight the revamp

Pinterest Lens got a new look and some new features Wednesday.

The visual discovery feature introduced by the social network in February was updated with a new interface (pictured below), additional camera features (pictured above), the ability to access existing images and the addition of sister visual discovery feature Instant Ideas to its results.

Pinterest also said in an email to Social Pro Daily that over the past month, it has more than doubled the number of object categories that Lens has been trained to recognize, with a focus on fashion, enabling Lens to improve its recommendations for outfit ideas—such as specific styles of shoes, dresses and hats—as well as different styles of swimsuits.

The new camera features for Lens include the ability to zoom in and out, as well as tap to focus, so that users can have the best-quality images to base their searches on.

Pinterest said it made accessing existing images in Lens easier because it found that Pinners also search them while using the feature, adding that recommended searches are now more prominent.

And the addition of Instant Ideas to Lens results gives users quick access to ideas that are related to specific results. David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
