PlaySpan Launches Celebrity Branded Virtual Items For Snoop Dogg

There is a flurry of activity in the virtual goods industry and we’ve been staying on top of it here at SocialTimes. The virtual economy solutions provider Playspan, that recently released a study reporting Australian gamers to have the highest ARPU, has announced that it will be providing a new line of celebrity-based virtual goods for Snoop Dogg. This will occur in partnership with virtual goods licensor Virtual Greats and the goods will be marketed soon in the popular virtual world: IMVU.

The Snoop Dogg virtual goods line will include sunglasses, hats, dance floors, music instruments and signature DJ sets. Also included will be animations that are often delightful for users to experience but have to be implemented in moderation. Celebrity branded virtual goods are increasing in popularity due to established brand equity and the proliferation of the virtual goods space. Other celebrities such as Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake have already embraced virtual goods.

“It’s a proud day for all Snoop Dogg fans in IMVU,” said Snoop Dogg, in a press statement. “I always look for ways to reach out and touch my fans, wherever they may be online or on the streets. My licensed items are off the chain and it’s a win-win situation for everyone, ya dig?!?”

The competition is heating up with companies like Playspan and Live Gamer scurrying to establish relationships with IP companies, brands, gaming platforms, payment platforms and social networks. We look forward to seeing more celebrity branded goods and games become prevalent in the social networking space, leading to increased revenues for publishers and celebrities alike.
