Gannett Newspaper Celebrates Another Stellar Awards Year

Poughkeepsie Journal once again dominates the New York News Publishers Association honor roll.

NYNPALogoWhen the New York News Publishers Association officially presents its 2015 Awards for Excellence next month in Albany, N.Y., the oldest daily newspaper in the state will once again own the room.

The Poughkeepsie Journal, purchased by Gannett in 1977, learned this week that its impressive run at these awards has continued. From their report:

With 14 awards, the Journal has won the most honors in the prestigious New York News Publishers Association contest for the fourth year in a row…

The Poughkeepsie Journal has [also] led in awards for its circulation level for at least eight years in a row. Last year, the Journal won 16 awards, the most in the 40-year history of the contest.

On a related front, Barry Rothfeld, president and publisher of the Journal since 2004, is retiring today after 42 years with Gannett. Assuming his duties as interim publisher at the paper is executive editor Stuart Shinske.
