Publishers Weekly Bought by Its Former Publisher

Ex-Publishers Weekly manager George Slowick has bought the magazine from Reed Business Information, Publishers Weekly said today.

Slowick, who headed up the publication two decades ago, founded the acquiring company, PWxyz, to envelop Publishers Weekly‘s print and digital entities. He’s a publishing veteran who’s worked for Wainscot Media, Weider Publications and Out Publishing, among other houses. The resume page on his Web site supplements a list of his business achievements with photos of a gorilla, a Mardi Gras celebration, and the Taj Mahal.

The magazine will remain in New York, and PWxyz plans to keep all current employees. PW co-editors Jim Millot and Michael Coffey will remain in place, as will publisher Cevin Bryerman.
