Reed Business Information has left any interested potential buyers disappointed by announcing that their remaining shuttered titles are no longer up for grabs.
When RBI first announced that it would be trying to sell several of its titles back in January, the company was upfront about the reality that unsold publications would likely have to be shuttered.
In April, after months of negotiations and a few successful deals, the company announced that it would be closing down 23 titles. Soon after, however, several RBI employees stepped up with bids to buy some of the remaining trade publications, and the company told interested third parties that they would have to wait until former company managers placed their bids before entering into negotiations of their own.
Now it seems that announcement was terribly misleading, given that RBI has announced its remaining brands are not for sale. According to Folio:, an e-mail from RBI executive vice president and CFO John Poulin states the company plans to keep the remaining titles in order to “generate qualified leads” through its Mardev DM2 business. These brands include Chain Leader, Converting, Graphic Arts Blue Book, Graphics Arts Monthly, Purchasing, Restaurants & Institutions and Trade Show Week.
