RD Recap: Ricky Van Veen Joins Facebook; Paul Fichtenbaum Out at Sports Illustrated Group

Ricky Van Veen leaves CollegeHumor after nearly two decades to join Facebook. He’ll be head of global creative strategy, which we imagine is a high-paying position. “I’ll be working with all types of creators and organizations to figure out how best to use the biggest network in the world to better connect people with engaging and meaningful content,” he wrote in a Facebook post announcing the news. Van Veen started CollegeHumor in 1999 with some friends and sold it to Barry Diller‘s IAC in 2006. At Facebook, he’ll help the social network expand its offerings, especially video, and help content creators reach a massive audience. It’s probably a perfect job for his skillset…

Paul Fichtenbaum is out as editor of the Sports Illustrated Group at Time Inc. He worked at SI as a senior editor, and then as managing editor/editor in chief between 2004 and 2012 before moving into the group editor position. Chris Stone, most recently SI’s managing editor, takes Fichtenbaum’s place as editorial director of SI, SI Kids and Golf. “He offers a fresh perspective, and the ambition to experiment and innovate at a time when we are transforming these iconic brands into true multimedia, multi-platform businesses,” said Rich Battista, Time Inc. evp and president of entertainment & sports group and video… Leslie Dukker Doty takes on the role of executive vp, consumer marketing and revenue.
