Restaurant rewards app Mogl updated with food bank donation options

Restaurant rewards platform Mogl has announced a new and updated version of its iOS app, complete with support for iOS 7 and a new way for users to donate to local food banks using the money they earn as a reward for eating at restaurants supported by the platform.

[contextly_sidebar id=”24cd3a4a91f825f0237fc4649bc36d2b”]When Mogl users connect a debit or credit card to the app, they earn 10 percent cash-back when using those cards to dine in thousands of supported restaurants. The app is updated in real-time when users earn new rewards, and now, users can choose to donate some or all of that cash back to a local food bank.

According to Mogl, every 20 cents donated via the app equals one meal. In its previous model, Mogl would donate a meal each time a user spent $20 at a supported restaurant, resulting in 550,000 donated meals to date.

“Once people learn about how bad the hunger problem has gotten in America, they want to help, but they don’t necessarily have extra time or money,” said Mogl CEO and Co-founder Jon Carder, in a company release. “We’ve made it easy for people to help out by doing something they’re already doing: eating out. We have always admired the social entrepreneurship model where you can use business to try to solve one of the world’s problems. What TOMS is for shoes, Mogl is for food.”

Outside of food donations, the Mogl app allows users to find participating restaurants close to them, searching by price, ratings and more. Users can also compete with others to see who can donate the most meals.

Mogl is live in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Ventura County, San Francisco and Phoenix, with new cities coming online as 100 people and five restaurants join in a new area. Once a new city is activated, Mogl works to add more restaurants to the pool, increasing the amount of rewards users can earn.
