Retweets And Replies For The Asking On Twitter

When you tweet, do you include a call to action? How about a request for retweets or replies?

Sure, including “please retweet” in every tweet isn’t only annoying, it’s a waste of precious characters – but if used sparingly, adding such a call to action might actually help you a bit.

Says who? These guys.

SocialCode, a company that “builds qualified social communities, engages those audiences and converts them to customers and evangelists for leading brands,” is always examining which tactics work best to achieve engagement and ROI for its clients.

Through a recent Twitter campaign, SocialCode’s ad team captured data proving that call to action in Tweets is effective.

We knew this to be true in Facebook posts – but now our data supports that using the word Retweet and Reply within tweet copy boosts Retweet (43X!) and Reply (8X) rates.

They also confirmed in this campaign study that Followers have a 12.17X higher retweet rate and 14.64X higher reply rate than non-followers. So yes, folks – numbers DO matter (though targeted followers are always best, of course).

This data was drawn from a campaign that consisted of 20 tweets over a two week period, with a goal of driving event tune-ins and engagement.

Have you tried asking folks to reply or retweet your content (selectively)? No one is advocating #TeamFollowBack action here, FYI.
