LootDrop and RockYou have announced plans to develop a second game, with aims to launch their first game entitled Cloudforest Expedition around summer time. Both companies see the partnership as lucrative and are bullish on their future growth. More after the jump.
As part of this deal, RockYou will fund and publish a second game in collaboration with John Romero and the others at LootDrop. The deal to fund and publish the first social game was announced back in January, so things must be going well between the two.
The first game, Cloudforest Expedition, plays on Ravenwood’s strength, using the successful social game as the baseline model for the game. Cloudforest Expedition, however, is much more expansive with the size of the world being much bigger. The systems in the game also go more in depth. This sort of development philosophy captures the true essence of where LootDrop wants to be: launching innovative games, not clones..
The idea of Cloudforest is to help them escape the isometric diamond – and go beyond. You’re kind of like an Indiana Jones / Lara Croft character that goes on a story-driven adventure with lots of interactivity and exploration. Cloudforests are real locations on earth – 1% of the vegetation of the forest is a cloud forest, essentially a jungle in perpetual foliage. Further details on Cloudforest will be released in the upcoming months.
LootDrop’s decision to work with RockYou has been a careful one. According to John Romero, RockYou is one of the best publishers out there, reinventing themselves to prepare for the future of gaming, and supports LootDrop’s creative freedom and innovation that they are trying got bring to the market.
Loot Drop boasts top talent in the space including co-founders John Romero and Brenda Brathwaite, Creative Director Laralyn McWilliams and Austin Studio Head and Game Designer, Tom Hall. Romero is slated to be the lead designer on both RockYou published titles. He earned early recognition for designing the Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Quake series and established independent studios and developed games for over 30 years before designing the popular social game hit Ravenwood Fair last year. Brathwaite, COO and game designer at Loot Drop, worked with Romero on Ravenwood Fair and is serving as a designer on Cloudforest Expedition. Like Romero, Brathwaite has been in the game industry for 30 years and has worked on a number of successful social game titles. She is best known for her work on the classic Wizardry and Jagged Alliance series.
