SKDKnickerbocker announced that Audrey Gelman, former deputy director of communications for Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, has joined the firm as a senior associate in its New York City office. Gelman will work in SKDKnickerbocker’s public affairs and strategic communications practice by serving the needs of non-profit, corporate and advocacy clients. Gelman will join SKDKnickerbocker in early May after quickly ascending the ranks of Stringer’s communications team, serving first as Deputy Press Secretary before being promoted to Press Secretary, and, finally, Deputy Director of Communications. ASGK Public Strategies, the firm founded by former White House advisor David Axelrod and Eric Sedler, announced the addition of government veteran Tracy Schmaler to its roster. Schmaler, the former director of the Office of Public Affairs at the Department of Justice, will serve as managing director and head of a new practice group focusing on crisis communications, litigation, and issues management. As managing director, Tracy will lead the Crisis Communications, Litigation and Issues Management group, which will be based in the firm’s Washington, DC office. (Release)

GolinHarris announced the appointment of Michael P. Mills as executive director and head of its Public Affairs and Sustainability practice in Atlanta. Mills will be responsible for growing the practice area that includes issue and crisis management, community engagement and CSR services. Mills comes to GolinHarris with more than 15 years of political, PR and organizational management experience. Most recently, he served as president of the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance (SEEA), an organization that partners with policymakers, utilities, governments, industry and non-governmental organizations to create more energy efficient futures for the communities they serve. Buffalo Communications has promoted Scott Leightman to public relations director and Glenn Gray to public relations manager. In his new position, Leightman will assume a larger role in strategy development and oversight of program execution within the company’s products division. Gray’s ascension to PR manager stems from strong performance for various Buffalo client-partners in the world of golf. (Release)
