RO*TEL, the maker of canned tomato and chili products, has created a new recipe contest powered by Facebook called RO*TEL Across America. The company will award $2,000 to “the most creative, best tasting RO*TEL recipe” created by its fans.
Fans can submit their entries until June 13th. On June 16th, after all the recipes have been submitted, a panel of judges will decide on the top ten submissions. The first round of judging will be conducted by both the brand and guest Judge Mary, a food blogger focused on country style southern cooking. The ten finalists will then be put to a vote among the company’s Facebook fans to decide the first place winner. Fans can vote until June 30th, and the winner will be announced on July 7th.
What’s neat about this contest, designed and built by NetPlus Marketing to both grow and engage the brand’s fan base, is that there is an interactive Google map showing where a user has posted a recipe from. Certain recipes are highlighted both on the map and on the Facebook page’s wall for increased visibility. Other features of the campaign include Facebook Connect, Facebook Share, and a Twitter API. Recipe pages also include microformats for best practice previews of images and text when sharing on Facebook.
