Sam Champion Immerses Himself in Gulf of Mexico Oil-Spill Story

The best way to report on a story? Dive right in. That’s what Sam Champion, weather anchor on ABC’s Good Morning America, did.

Champion, Philippe Cousteau, and a team of specially trained divers donned special hazmat dive suits and explored the Gulf of Mexico waters off the Louisiana coastline, giving viewers a close-up look at the effects of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill last month.

There was no word yet on whether the dive by Champion, Cousteau, and company affected any of the readings on the PBS NewsHour Gulf Leak Meter widget. David Cohen is editor of Adweek's Social Pro Daily.
