San Bernardino Mass Shooting Compels Howie Carr to Finally Apply for Gun Permit

Latest Boston Herald missive rips media, law enforcement and POTUS.

HowieCarr_12_4Author, radio host and Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr starts off today’s missive by explaining that he had been meaning for several months to complete the paperwork required to own a gun. And that on Thursday, in the wake of the San Bernardino mass shooting, he finally did just that at the Wellesley Police station.

Then there’s this paragraph, a little further down:

And how come no networks
replayed Obama saying three weeks ago that ISIS was “contained?” Think they’d have given George W. Bush that kind of pass?

Carr’s rhetorical insinuation is essentially correct. Had George W. said the same sorts of things just ahead of Paris and now, also, San Bernardino, the media would be all over it like My Pet Goat. Later on in the Herald piece, Carr returns to the details of applying for his gun permit:

Back at the police station, the
officer was asking me the required list of questions: “Reason(s) for requesting the issuance of a card or license.”

I thought about replying, the
Immigration Reform Act of 1965. But that was too obscure.

If you think that’s bad, then please do not read the column’s final sentence. Or, for that matter, most of the reader comments.

P.S. Carr is currently in the middle of a book tour for his novel Killers. Tomorrow’s appearances at Market Basket grocery chain locations in New Bedford and Bourne, Mass. will no doubt spark further discussion of this week’s horrific Southern Calfornia events.
