Simon & Schuster has partnered with The New York Public Library, the Brooklyn Public Library, and the Queens Library, for a new pilot eBook program. Like other eBook programs library patrons will be able to check out digital copies of Simon & Schuster titles from participating libraries. The program will also allow patrons to purchase eBook copies of these books from within the libraries’ online portals. The library that they make the purchase from will receive a share of the proceeds from these retail sales.
The one-year pilot program, will begin April 30th on Manhattan and Brooklyn and will launch around mid-May in Queens. All of Simon & Schuster’s frontlist and backlist titles that are available as eBooks will be eligible to participate, and new titles can be made available as they are published. The program will bring titles including: Lonesome Dove, Team of Rivals, Steve Jobs, The Glass Castle, Still Alice, The Road Less Traveled, and The Coldest Winter Ever to the digital bookshelves of participating libraries.
Libraries can acquire these titles anytime during the one-year pilot program and the title will be accessible for a year to the day they sign up. Libraries will be able to offer an unlimited number of checkouts during their one-year term.
