As we previously told you about, Good magazine is throwing a party this weekend in Atwater Village for the debut of its Los Angeles issue. What we negelected to inform you is that everyone’s favorite LA lit journal Slake will be there. This Saturday night, starting at 5 P.M., Slake will feature readings from Lauren Weedman, Justin Warfield, James Greer, and Judith Lewis Mernit. The lovely Georgia and Alie, of meat cocktail fame, will be preparing cocktails for the very brave.
The whole event is free, but you have to RSVP here. Do it now! Or no meat cocktails for you.
Press release after the jump:
This weekend GOOD magazine is throwing a bash at the new and thriving Atwater Crossing to celebrate the release of its Los Angeles issue, and Slake: Los Angeles is joining in the fun. The GOOD L.A. Launch Weekend is a three-day celebration of the people who make Los Angeles work, with a Friday-night cocktail-and-urban-planning discussion, a book club meeting on bicycles hosted by CicLAvia, a pop-up community center with art projects, zine making, and workshops on beekeeping and a bunch of other events.
Where does Slake come in? On Saturday, April 9, starting at 5 p.m., we’ll host two hours of readings, mixology, music, and dance. The Slakeness begins with foxy cocktailians Alie and Georgia setting the mood with drinks concocted especially for the night, and continues with readings from Slake contributors Lauren Weedman, Justin Warfield, James Greer, and Judith Lewis Mernit. Then we’ll present the dark and stormy and far-out Dorian Wood on vox and piano, and performances from Ryan Heffington and dancers from his Sweat Spot pop-up studio.
And come see us all day Saturday at our booth at the pop-up community center in Atwater Crossing and check out our newest T-shirt and posters created from art featured in the pages of Slake Nos. 1 and 2. Check out all the details here, and be sure to RSVP, because space is running out.
