Snap Inc. Loses Top Ad Product Manager Ahead of Its IPO

As Snap Inc. gears up to go public in the coming weeks, Sriram Krishnan—one of the company’s top advertising execs—is leaving the company.

On Sunday, Krishnan tweeted that he has left Snap for personal reasons after joining in February 2016 to build out the company’s ad business. Snap poached Krishnan from Facebook, where he had worked since 2013 and was credited in building the Facebook Audience Network into a $1 billion business.

In a series of tweets, Krishnan explained that he was leaving the Venice, Calif.-based company so that he could move back to San Francisco to be closer to family and friends. Krishnan’s wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy, is CEO and co-founder of camera equipment-rental startup Lumoid. Recode was first to announce Krishnan’s leaving on Sunday.

Krishnan worked on monetization chief Peter Sellis’ team, who heads up Snapchat’s API platform that lets marketers buy ads and track the measurement and effectiveness of campaigns. Snap recently opened the API to all brands after testing it with 100 companies and added 16 agencies and vendors.

The move is particularly intriguing as Snap plans to go public as early as March 2, with advertising making up the bulk of the app’s $404.5 million 2016 revenue.
