Social games news roundup: GREE gets an award, SGN teams up with Betable and Canimals come to Facebook

GREE named “Best Social Games Service Provider”— Social mobile platform GREE was honored at the Mobile Entertainment Awards 2012 with the award for Best Social Games Service Provider. Other candidates for the award included Star Arcade, DeNA, Playphone, Tequila Mobile and Papaya Mobile

SGN partners with Betable— Social mobile developer SGN this week announced a partnership with Betable, the platform that allows develoeprs to easily integrate real-money gameplay into titles. The partnership will allow SGN to enable real-money gambling in some of its mobile titles overseas, starting in early 2013.

Cantasia arrives on Facebook [Launch]—The Popular animation and kids’ brand Canimals came to Facebook this week in the form of new app Cantasia. The app is a new social media platform that includes arcade games allowing for themed quests and competition with friends. We’re told mobile versions of each game are being developed, too, which will allow for cross-platform gameplay.

Cleopatra Slots now available on DoubleDown Casino— IGT’s real-world Cleopatra slots game has been ported over to DoubleDown Casino for mobile devices. The game is popular in casinos around the world and follows the successful launch of Da Vinci Diamonds for mobile devices back in September.

Plants vs. Zombies trading cards now available— PopCap’s online store now has sets of Plants vs. Zombies trading cards for sale. The cards  are available in 4 packs (each pack comes with seven cards) or full retail boxes with 24 packs. The set has a total of 50 base cards, 10 chase cards, and either a signature card or a sketch card from Plants vs. Zombies artist Rich Werner.

Club Penguin sees record traffic over Thanksgiving weekend— Disney’s Club Penguin set a new traffic record on the day after Thanksgiving, with 1.8 million users logging in. We’re told the game’s traffic has seen massive growth lately, thanks to in-game events like the Marvel Super Hero Takeover and Mark Your Mark: Ultimate Jam.
