Surprising Results From The Second Annual Freelance Forecast Survey

The second annual Freelance Forecast survey from Boomvang Creative is out, and there are some surprising and some not-so-surprising results.

The recession may have taken its toll on some freelancers—with a third saying their business was worse in 2009 than in 2008.

The majority of freelancers pull an hourly rate of $26-$50, though a surprising number charge under $25 an hour.

A large number of freelancers didn’t contribute to any sort of retirement plan last year. To echo Jake Poinier, who conducted the Freelance Forecast survey for his company Boomvang, if you’re one of those freelancers, please make 2010 the year you change that.

Last, a shocking number of freelancers–22 percent–never require clients to sign contracts, and only 18 percent always require contracts. Really? Buncha trusting people out there?

What do you think about this?
