Susan Tifft, coauthor of two major books on American newspaper families, passed away today. She was 59.
With her husband and fellow journalist Alex Jones, Tifft penned The Trust, a detailed look at the Sulzberger-Ochs family, which has run The New York Times since 1986. The pair also wrote The Patriarch, about the intrigue behind a newspaper family’s sale of the Louisville Courier-Journal to Gannett in 1986. Tifft had also written and edited for Time.
Tifft, who had cancer, chronicled her experiences at length in a blog at CaringBridge.org.
