The Boston Globe to Hike Home Delivery Prices Next Month

The Boston Globe, currently seeped in praise and culinary delights from fans and fellow journalists, will raise the cost of its local weekly home delivery services — the third price hike since 2009.

Ellen Clegg, a spokeswoman for the Globe, told FishbowlNY that home delivery for the Sunday paper will climb from $3.50 a week/$182 a year to $3.99 a week/207 a year, the first price increase in nearly a decade for the the Boston Sunday Globe. The increase going into effect May 12.

On May 6, the price of seven-day home delivery will rise from $12.99 a week/$675 a year to $13.99 a week/$727 a year. The service’s price rose in 2009, then again in 2012.

Publisher Chris Mayer is raising the paper’s pricetag ahead of an expected sale by The New York Times Company, which is shopping out the New England Media Group to prospective buyers through Evercore Partners.
