The Future of Books

The venerable satire site McSweeney’s has set its sights upon  eBooks, enhanced eBooks, and other fooferaw.

About a month ago James Warner posted an amusing collection of predictions. He starts with a not quite so ridiculous prediction for 2020 and then quickly departs from reality. I personally think the 2040 prediction is the best. That’s the era when readers will be responsible for caring for their favorite author’s online avatar. Readers will have a responsibility similar to Pokemon, and that’s why this era will culminate in author-vs-author cage matches. These fights will happen offline as the last couple bookstores struggle to survive.
