In February, The New York Times announced that it was coming to Snapchat Discover, the area in the Snapchat application where users can browse content from popular media companies, such as CNN and The Daily Mail.
Now, the Times’ Discover channel has officially gone live, and it will post stories five days per week, Monday through Friday.
With this launch, the news organization will share content based on its “Morning Briefing” feature, as well as a small crossword puzzle that users can complete by drawing letters on the crossword image. The Times’ channel is available for users in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
In February, Kinsey Wilson, executive vice president of product and technology at The New York Times Co., commented on the Discover launch in a press release:
We’re seeing enormous interest on the part of younger audiences for the sort of smart, visual digital journalism for which the Times has become known. And Snapchat is an ideal place to reach that audience. At the end of the day, our goal is to make sure our journalism reaches the widest possible audience and that we continue the rapid growth we’ve seen in our base of loyal subscribers—growth that comes in large part from reaching new audiences on other platforms.
The New York Times first began sharing content on Snapchat two years ago, through the app’s Stories feature. In addition to publishing content on its own Discover channel, the Times said it will continue sharing content through Stories.
