The Root Gets High Marks

Trendy divorce parties with the word “underwear” in the lede. Commentary from former RNC Chairman Michael Steele. The world’s most powerful black women. Tyra at Harvard. Morgan Freeman possibly marrying his step-granddaughter.

And that’s just a taste of what’s happening at The Root, WaPo Co.’s African American news and commentary site, which announces today that it ranks number one amongst black news sites for four straight months. The source: comScore.

With an average of 1.7 million* monthly unique visitors and 13.5 million** page views per month, The Root reports in a release that it has been growing steadily over the past six months and has seen a year-over-year increase in its audience size of 35%.***

The site launched in January 2008 and recently underwent a major redesign. They say the new design has given it “a richer, bolder homepage and many more ways to access content.”
