It’s a rescue-dog story. It’s a social media story. And it’s one we will never get tired of.
If you’re not familiar with Tinkerbelle, today’s piece from Australia is a good place to start:
Sam Carrell, owner and self-titled “mum-ager” (mum-manager) rescued the Papillon-Maltese mix from a local shelter on Long Island, New York when she was just a puppy. Trying to break one-pound Tinkerbelle of her shyness, Ms Carrell would walk Tinkerbelle around the streets of New York City. What came next is a true Hollywood story.
“One woman… pulled out a card. ‘I’m an animal agent and I want to work with your dog,’” remembers Ms Carrell. After that fateful day and a harrowing audition (including a hot dog test to prove Tinkerbelle’s concentration), Tinkerbelle booked her first gig as the face of a massive Ralph Lauren campaign. An actress herself, Ms Carrell saw Tinkerbelle’s potential right away.
The screen grab above is taken from Tinkerbelle’s Instagram account, which at press time has 118,000 followers. Her caption for the clip: Honored to be front row at Alex Vinash #nyfw.
Tinkerbelle was already doing well before Instagram. But Carrell says the platform has opened up all sorts of additional advertising-campaign opportunities with the likes of PetSmart, Purina, Swiffer and Febreze. The New York Post also had a fun Feb. 12 item about the NYFW four-legged star. Bow wow… wow.
