Truman Capote Live in New York

You may have missed your chance to see Truman Capote give a reading from his classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s in person, but that doesn’t mean you can’t hear him now: the 92 St. Y Poetry Center, one of New York’s major literary centers, just posted a recording of Capote reading at the Y in 1963, one of many recordings and videos of past and contemporary authors reading their work available via the 92 St. Y Web site.

also included on the site are readings from Harold Pinter, Kurt Vonnegut, Nadine Gordimer, Chinua Achebe, Doris Lessing, Norman Mailer, Paul Auster, A.S. Byatt, and Adrienne Rich, among others.

If you can’t get to the Y yourself, or can’t make your way back to 1963, this is the next best thing.
