Donald Trump‘s new, daily Facebook Live evening hour, which started last night at 6:30 p.m. with hosts Cliff Sims and Boris Epshteyn, guest Kellyanne Conway, a chyron, news ticker and graphics, sure does read like something that wants to be more than just an hourly campaign update in these last two weeks before the election.
Is this or isn’t it a precursor to a post-election Trump television network? Trump’s people are saying no. Trump is saying no.
“This is just an effort by us to reach out to you guys, give you the message straight from the campaign. You don’t have to take it through the media filter and all the spin that they put on it. You can hear it from us directly,” says Sims at the start of the broadcast.
Later, Epshteyn and Sims emphasized this has nothing at all to do with a future Trump TV, no matter what the “left wing media” says. “The left wing media is even trying to spin this believe it or not,” said Epshteyn. “They’re saying, well, somehow this is Trump TV. That’s not what this is. This is our campaign, and most importantly, our candidate, being out there an speaking directly to the voters.”
Sims added, “I think if you just step back and look at this, you’ve got Mr. Trump with an enormous Twitter following, a massive Facebook following, it would be malpractice on our part if we didn’t utilize these massive online platforms that he has to take this vision, his message to make America great again directly to the people. If we didn’t do that we would be doing our job wrong.”
That’s a lot of convincing.
In a call-in this morning to the Scott Sloan Show on WLW radio in Cincinnati, Trump reiterated the point, telling Sloan, “No, I have no interest in Trump TV. I hear it all over the place. I have a tremendous fan base, I mean we have a tremendous base, we have the most incredible people. But I just don’t have any interest in that. I have one interest–that’s on Nov. 8, and frankly right now,” going on to describe how the campaign is doing in the early voting states before coming back to Sloan’s question. “We’re leading states we really have to win, so no, I have no interest in beyond that. I have interest in making America great again.”
We’ll find out for sure soon enough.
