Have You Seen The Twitter Mirror?

Behold: the Twitter Mirror.

Often found backstage at major award shows such as the Grammys and the Oscars, as well as talk show green rooms, the Mirror allows celebrities to take “selfies” of themselves simply by tapping the screen. The photo is then sent out to the event’s Twitter feed, often driving thousands and thousands of retweets and comments.

“Our job is to get everyone at home on Twitter to say, ‘Oh my God, watching TV with Twitter is so much fun,’ ” says Fred Graver, Twitter’s head of TV, speaking to the Wall Street Journal. “People sometimes say, ‘These Oscars can be a slog.’ We’re trying to give them an amazing view of what is coming up next and what people are doing off-camera.”

And it appears to be working. Check out the candid snaps below, which even includes famous Twitter naysayer George Clooney.

“The Mirror photos are more of a contrast to the standard paparazzi, red-carpet, step-and-repeat choreography where you see all of the exact same poses in every celebrity gossip mag,” says Twitter’s Andrew McClain, one of seven employees who is working on the Mirror.
