Two More Lawsuits vs. Facebook

Phoenix Media/Communications and Mekiki became the latest passengers on the “Let’s sue Facebook” bandwagon, TechCrunch reports.

Phoenix, publisher of the Boston Phoenix newspaper, claims that the social-networking site violated a patent related to setting up online personal profile pages. According to TechCrunch, its claim alleges that Facebook’s “computer network and method of creating and sharing a personal page” is covered by one or more claims of a patent issued in June 2001.

And Mekiki, a Japanese company that operates social network SamuraiTime, claims that Facebook was built using its patented technology, with Bloomberg reporting that Mekiki claims Facebook infringed three patents for a “human relationships registering system.”

According to TechCrunch, Facebook refused to comment on the Mekiki case but said the Phoenix case is “without merit and will be fought vigorously.”
