Variety Fashions a Japanese Sequel

Trade's latest international co-venture is with Tokyo Sangyo Shimbun.

Today is the day that Variety went live, once again, with a foreign-language edition for Japan. And maybe it’s just us, but the combination of Japanese headline script and English project titles is good for a laugh.

Variety has had a number of international editions over the years, including a previous one in Japan from 2007 to 2009. Others have catered to Russia, China and the Middle East. The new Variety Japan (digital only) is being run in partnership with Tokyo Sangyo Shimbun.

Variety Latino, meanwhile, which is run out of the PMC Los Angeles offices, is very much a going concern. The joint venture with Univision can be sampled here.
