Wall Street Journal Uses Foursquare to Send Times Square Alert

For the first time, The Wall Street Journal has used Foursquare to alert users to breaking news.

Soon after learning of today’s Times Square scare, the WSJ “checked in” to Times Square and included the following message:

“Portions of Times Square have been evacuated after a report of a suspicious package.”

The message was posted in conjunction with additional alerts and coverage on WSJ.com.

Users who follow the Journal on Foursquare and were in New York at the time would have seen the alert at the top of their Foursquare timeline.
