WhatsApp added an extra layer of security to help iOS users ensure that other people can’t simply pick up their iPhones and read their messages.

Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint option is now available to those with iOS 9 and above, and its Face ID biometric facial-recognition option can be implemented by those with iOS 12 and above.

Once users select either option, Touch ID or Face ID must be used to unlock the WhatsApp application.

WhatsApp iOS users can go to Settings, Account, Privacy, Screen Lock to turn on Touch ID or Face ID, and they can choose the amount of time before whichever one they selected is prompted after the app is closed.

A spokesperson for WhatsApp said a similar feature is being developed for its Android app.
