Will Instagram Remove Like Counts From Its Posts?

An internal test was discovered last week

Instagram is toying with the idea of removing like counts from posts on its network.

Developer and blogger Jane Manchun Wong shared screenshots via Twitter of the test, which includes the following message within the application: “We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get. During this test, only the person who shared a post will see the total number of likes it gets.”

Indeed, posts that are part of the test in Wong’s screenshots do not include like counts, although they do include the name of one person who liked the post and the profile pictures of others.

Instagram said this is an internal test, with a spokesperson adding, “We’re not testing this at the moment, but exploring ways to reduce pressure on Instagram is something we’re always thinking about.”
