Rodale has launched a digital version of Women’s Health for the iPad, available for download on iTunes for $4.99. The magazine’s launch is being sponsored by Oakley eyewear and will include — in addition to Women’s Health‘s typical coverage of workouts, health tips and feature stories — original, iPad-exclusive content such as behind-the-scenes video footage, real-time polls, the option of sharing stories across social networks, and bonus galleries not available in print.
Gregg Michaelson, president of integrated marketing sales and chief marketing officer for Rodale Inc, had this to say about the company’s goals in creating digital content for its titles:
Rodale is creating a digital marketplace on the iPad platform that reflects the depth of the company’s assets across both magazines and books. The introduction of the iPad has created an important new integration opportunity for advertisers and publishers and our unique development model is designed to enrich the experience for our partners in this space.
Rodale has already seen success with its Men’s Health app, its Women’s Health workout tips app, and has plans to launch iPad versions of Prevention, Bicycling, Runner’s World, and Organic Gardening this summer.
