WSJ‘s Daniel Pearl Memorialized Through New ‘Daniel Pearl Freedom Of The Press Act’

Journalist Daniel Pearl has been memorialized through new legislation bearing his name. On Monday, President Barack Obama officially signed the Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act — legislation intended to promote free press around the world by requiring the State Department to scrutinize news media restrictions and intimidation in relation to human rights.

Pearl, whose wife Marianne was on hand to witness the signing, was a Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped while reporting in Pakistan and later beheaded. President Obama praised Pearl for being “outspoken and so courageous.”
