Washington, D.C., and New York, N.Y. (June 10, 2013)— will join the company in the newly created role of Entrepreneur in Residence. His first day is July 15.
Working closely with The Atlantic’s Editorial and Digital Strategy and Operations teams, Golis will support the media brand’s expanding video and paid-content initiatives. He will also work with the teams to help identify and launch new ventures and products across The Atlantic’s platforms.

Golis joins The Atlantic during a period of sustained investment in editorial initiatives. In recent years, the magazine brand has added stand-alone sites The Atlantic Wire and The Atlantic Cities, new topic verticals such as the Sexes and China Channels on TheAtlantic.com, and companion mobile and tablet apps. In the same period, audience reach has exploded, increasing by more than 235 percent on TheAtlantic.com and by more than 700 percent on The Atlantic Wire since 2010. The Atlantic Cities, which launched in 2011, is up by more than 210 percent to date.
Golis currently serves as the Director of Digital Media and a Senior Editor for Frontline, PBS’s flagship public-affairs documentary series. There, he is responsible for integrating the program’s broadcast and digital efforts as a part of its ongoing transition to a post-broadcast future. As part of Frontline‘s senior editorial team, Golis oversees two departments: Digital, which includes editorial, strategy, design, and product development; and Audience Development, which includes promotion, broadcast and digital audience research, and long-term audience strategy.
While at Frontline, Golis has helped expand the series’ digital-first original reporting and analysis, grow its digital audience by more than 75 percent, and launch a series of award-winning experiments in interactive video. In 2012, the program received an Online Journalism Award for General Excellence.
Previously, Golis was the Editor of Blogging and a Politics Editor at Yahoo News, where he built a network of reported blogs—Yahoo’s first foray into originally created content—for the biggest digital news audience in the country. Before that, he was the Deputy Publisher of Talking Points Memo, where he helped manage that company’s explosive editorial, audience, and business growth as it transitioned from a one-man blog to a fully staffed news organization.
Golis, who was named to Forbes‘s annual “30 Under 30” list for media in 2012, is a graduate of Harvard University.
