On Wed., May 5, Publishing Executive sent out a Breaking News alert regarding The Washington Post Chairman explaining the sale of Newsweek magazine to its staffers. A mistake occurred during the process of setting up the news alert in our e-mail distribution system, and some readers received the news alert with their own name in the “From” line. (If you received the alert with your name in the “From” line, you can be assured that no other readers received an alert “from” you; their own name would have appeared instead in the alert they received.)
This was a technical error, and absolutely not an intentional tactic we used to deceive readers. We apologize for any confusion that occurred as a result of this, and assure you that we are correcting the process so that it will not happen again.
