Food Network Beefs Up Its Prime-time Menu With 24 New Series

Spinoffs and stars dominate upfront offerings

The Food Network, which unveiled a virtual buffet of new shows Wednesday, wants to make sure nobody goes away hungry. Together with sister network Cooking Channel, the two Scripps networks will offer a staggering 40 new series, 30 returning shows and 15 specials.

"Food Network will continue to build off the success of fan favorites with more eventized and exciting stunts, including some sweet additions to the menu with new baking and holiday-themed programming," said Brooke Johnson, president of Food Network and Cooking Channel. "Entertaining and engaging are at the forefront of our 2015 development plans."

Another Scripps network, HGTV, announced a smaller slate of 10 new series, including a variation on Brother vs. Brother that eliminates teams and pits the brothers against each other for the title of "best brother."

Another HGTV debut features Derek Hough and Mark Ballas of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, taking them off the dance floor and into the world of home renovation. In Mark & Derek's Excellent Flip, Hough and Ballas will renovate and flip a house.

Here are some of the Food Network highlights unveiled at Scripps' combined upfront presentation at New York's Lincoln Center:


  • Cutthroat Kitchen: Evilicious – Alton Brown hosts the competition show that brings back 16 of "the most cunning, conniving and memorable chefs" from previous seasons of Cutthroat Kitchen. Produced by Embassy Row for Food Network.
  • Craziest Restaurants in America – A coast-to-coast tour of "outrageous, outstanding and bizarre" experiences in dining. Featured spots include an underwater restaurant and a "zombie-themed bistro." Produced by Milkman for Food Network.
  • Burgers, Brew and 'Que – Michael Symon hosts a road trip that searches out "the best of the American classics: burgers and BBQ." Symon also tracks down local beers to complete the meal. Produced by Relativity Lifestyle for Food Network.
  • Rachel Ray's Kids Cook-Off – Rachel Ray and a panel of all-star guests host this six-episode series in which kids compete in cooking competitions and vie for their own series on Produced by Jane Street for Food Network.
  • Untitled Internet Reviewers Series – In this yet-to-be-named show, people who post online reviews of restaurants are tasked with saving struggling eateries. Produced by ITV Studios America for Food Network.

Returning series include Chopped; Cutthroat Kitchen; Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives; and Season 11 of Food Network Star.
