Information Diet: Patti Stanger

The 'Millionaire Matchmaker' loves print magazines—but couldn't live without her Dell Streak

What’s the first information you consume in the morning?

I hit Good Day LA on Fox. It’s like the Today show, but local.

What do you read or watch or listen to at the breakfast table?

I read TMZ and Perez because I’ve got to keep up with celebrities. I have a Star magazine column and a matching game once a month on Access Hollywood, so I always need to know who’s dating who, who broke up last night, who’s having a baby.

What occupies your mind in the car, on the subway, train, or bus?

I do subliminals, where I listen to music that’s programming my positive energy in love, business, and accomplishing my goals. I’m actually coming out with a CD that you can download.

Are you a TV junkie or on an airtime-restricted diet?

I’m a TV-aholic! I watch everything, but my favorite show is True Blood. I’m into this new show called Strike Back. It’s like Alias meets 24 in South Africa, and it’s on Cinemax. And I was really addicted last season to Camelot.

If you’re a couch potato, what do you watch, and how: TV, laptop, or tablet?

I like to see characters and people who have a business and are going from X to Y. I’m a big fan of The Rachel Zoe Project and Flipping Out with Jeff Lewis, and the Kardashians—I love Kris, the mother. I’m also addicted to HBO Go, which I watch on my Dell Streak because the iPad doesn’t have Flash.

Before bed, do you bite into a novel, graze on Twitter, or fast until morning?

I’m also a magazine-aholic. I read every magazine under the sun. I’m addicted to Elle and magazines like Self, Shape, Health. I also read self-help books before bed.

Which is more nutritious: print or Web?

I believe that print is really nutritious. I’m a visual person, and I love the pictures and the colors, and you just don’t get that feel on the Web. It never gives the same impact.

Give us the skinny on your favorite app.

I like Shazam and I use IMDb because I’m always checking on who’s representing who. And when we were in New York, we had this really cool app to order groceries called FreshDirect.

What’s your biggest digital indulgence?

The Dell Streak. It’s my favorite new thing. It comes with the cutest little case, it fits in your purse, and it’s got everything!

With such a bloated media universe, how do you cut out the fat?

I just bought something that cuts out the fat! It’s called the VuPoint Magic Wand Portable Scanner. You can scan anything you want and take it anywhere. I’m a clutterbug when it comes to papers, so my goal is to go paperless.
