The Next Summer Olympics Are 2 Years Away, but NBC Is Already Marketing for Them

The games will be held in Tokyo

The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo are still two years away, but that hasn’t stopped NBCUniversal from kicking off its marketing campaign, with a 60-second spot that will run across platforms.

The spot, featuring top U.S. athletes in prior competitions, shows the hashtag, #TokyoOlympics.

NBC Sports will also air a week of programming featuring U.S. Olympians, with more than 20 hours of swimming from the 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships, gymnastics at the 2018 GK U.S. Classic and cycling during the 105th Tour de France.

Among the athletes in those competitions will be popular Olympians including Katie Ledecky, Caeleb Dressel, Simone Biles and Greg Van Avermaet. Content will be available on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. An hourlong documentary documenting the Unified Korean Team at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea called “We Are One” will also air Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on the Olympic Channel.

NBCUniversal was awarded the broadcast rights in the United States for the Olympic Games through 2032.
