It seems like Netflix wants you to ease up on binging, at least for one program.
The streaming service is using its latest weekly comedy show, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, to stay timely and relevant. Binge the episodes, if you must, but you’ll miss out on some of the show’s biggest takeaways.
Take Minhaj’s segment on why local state races are so important, for example, which is part of the newest episode. Ahead of the midterm elections on Tuesday, the topic is an especially relevant one for the first half of this week:
Netflix has ordered 32 episodes of Patriot Act, making Minhaj the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy show.
Minhaj hosted the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner and was widely praised for his Netflix comedy special, Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, which earned him a Peabody Award this year.
The streaming service has played around with the rollout of two comedy shows recently, The Break with Michelle Wolf, which aired weekly over 10 episodes and The Joel McHale Show, which aired weekly over 13 episodes. Neither were renewed for a second season.
A spokesperson for Netflix did not immediately return a request for comment.
